What is a Detox Specialist?

The role of a Detox Specialist is to educate clients to identify and reduce exposure to certain food and environmental toxic chemicals, decease the burden on the body and strengthen the eliminative organs through the application of scientifically proven and personalised nutritional strategies.

A Detox Specialist may work with a healthy individual in order to help reduce the toxins the body is exposed to and improve the body’s ability to detoxify. But they may also work with an unwell individual to ease and minimise symptoms of toxicity risk, oftentimes alongside the advice of a medical doctor. A nutritional detoxification program along with lifestyle recommendations provided by a Detox Specialist cannot replace the advice of a doctor, but it can certainly complement it.

A personalised nutritional program is formulated to ensure that the diet addresses the current detoxification needs, contains the required detoxifying foods and reduces detoxification detractors.

What I do

As a Certified Nutritional Therapist and Detox Specialist, my work and continued training is intently focused on the impact of nutrition on the human body;

  • I am able to recognise the impact of nutrition on health and gene expression and understand the relationship between free radicals and DNA damage
  • I analyse antioxidant capacity and put forward nutritional recommendations to increase antioxidant protection
  • I perform nutritional assessments, evaluate detoxification capacity, detect probable nutrient deficiencies and put forward tailored recommendations to enhance detoxification and correct deficiencies
  • I analyse diet, sleep, and hydration journals and make recommendations, building personalised food plans to improve health symptoms and detoxification abilities
  • I organise shopping lists and accompany shopping trips when requested, offer cooking and recipe ideas, track progress, and monitor and support food reintroduction processes
  • I am able to recognise sources of exogenous (external) and endogenous (internal) toxins, identify symptoms of exposure, and devise nutritional strategies to help alleviate them
  • I build short term nutritional plans based on the current state of health of individuals and their detoxification goals; assess, plan and monitor nutrient intake
  • I am able to identify risks of exposure to toxin types such as mutagens, genotoxins, neurotoxins, mycotoxins, carcinogens, heavy metals and petrochemicals
  • I understand internal elimination and biochemical detoxification pathways, which particular nutrients enhance them and which agents hinder them

The detox programmes I have created are in collaboration with The Health Sciences Academy, the largest online educator on nutrition science in the UK, focusing on science-based material engineered by their very own team of highly-qualified nutrition scientists and researchers.
